hiya!
welcome to ‘black || radical’ - a substack that highlights upcoming and established black artists that write and perform in alternative music scenes - alternative in the widest sense, whether that’s: guitar-led, classical, singer-songwriter, alternative r&b, alternative jazz, with an edge, electronic production, metal, punk and everything in between.
the point is to create a one stop shop where these artists are taking up ALL the ‘column’ inches, to move away from sites and pages that look tokenistic by design, though not by intent. this substack is NOT a hit-piece on media or the music industry - i simply cannot be bothered - but a celebration of the black alternative talent that’s out there.
it’s going to look something like this: a weekly that highlights five great tracks, one short q&a as well as a monthly long-read piece.
this is a labour of love and i hope that from this i’ll be able to highlight and represent black talent in a variety of ways under this banner.
anyway, that’s it for now.
